Using Your Car in Network Marketing

If you have a car, you have a way to advertise your network marketing business. Advertising means letting others know about you and your products. I'd like to share some ways you can use your car to promote your business:

1. Personalized license plates - I remember a game show many years ago where the whole idea of the show was to guess the personal license plate sayings. Think of ways you can promote your own business on your license plate. If you sell kitchen products, what about KCHNLDY or KCHNFUN? If you sell health care products, what about VITMN or HELTHY? Think about what you do and think about how you could promote that on your license plate.

2. License plate frames - I have a frame around my license plate that that says, "To buy or sell" on the top along with the company name and then on the bottom is my phone number. If you do a Google search for "personalized license plate frames" you'll find several companies that make these products. You can choose the color of the frame, the color of the paint and the color of the lettering.

3. Vinyl lettering - Company cars and trucks often have vinyl lettering on the doors of their cars. You can order vinyl lettering fairly inexpensively. If your company allows it, use the company name and your phone number. Or consider vinyl lettering that says, "I sell _____" and put that on your car door.

4. Magnetic signs - I've seen many companies offer these as incentives. Magnetic signs can be transferred from car to car if you own multiple cars. The signs are large enough that you can put a mini ad on the sign along with your contact information.

5. Window signs - Make sure your sign meets your state laws of not blocking your vision. You can hand-make signs that are mini ads with your name and contact information or you can just put your company name and your phone number on window signs.

If you choose to use company names and phone numbers, make sure your company name is a well known brand name. There is nothing wrong with being a distributor for a lesser known company, but when you market, you need to do something other than use the company name. Instead, use phrases such as "I sell health care products" or "I sell cosmetic products".

Build your customer base and team base in network marketing by using your car to advertise your company and your products.

Role of a Manager

Managers are building blocks of the organization. A manager performs five basic functions - Planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. At all the levels of management we have managers working there and performing one or more of these managerial functions. A manager's main role is to achieve effective utilization of resources in an organization. He achieves so through coordinated human efforts. A manager has a very important role to play in achieving organizational objectives. He is responsible for aligning the individual's objectives with the organizational objectives. This is very essential for achieving long-term organizational success.

A Manager is the one who communicates organizational vision to the employees of the organization. He should ensure that there is effective communication flow in an organization and that there should no misinterpretations taking place.

A manager has crucial role to play in decision making process in an organization. He has to decide how to bring and communicate organizational changes. He plays a major role in setting organizational goals. He has to be in close contact with the employees of the organization. He should understand them and motivate them. He should encourage them so that they can perform effectively. He should praise them when they show brilliant performance and on bad performance, he should give them constructive feedback rather than negative feedback. He should provide them online support and coaching.

A manager should resolve conflicts among the employees and try to reach at an acceptable solution. This would improve employees work quality as well as performance. Thus, a manager's role is very important so as to improve employees productivity as well as organization's productivity. He should understand that organizational success depends on employees. Thus the more satisfied and happy the employees are the more success the organization will show. A manager must be committed to his work so as to set an example for his subordinates.

What is Leadership? How Do You Identify a Leader?

Leadership is the ability to guide, direct, or influence people; to give guidance or direction; to have the ability to lead skillfully. A true leader teaches others what you know and learns from them as well. Leaders listen.

How do you identify a Leader? Well by their traits.

Traits are distinguished qualities or characteristics of a person. There are hundreds of personality traits. I will focus on a few that are vital for a leader. The more of these traits you display as a leader, the more your team will believe in you.

Inspiration:

A leader is the one who always seems to know what to do and the one people seek out for advice. He/she not only has a vision, but they also know how to communicate it. A good leader must be able to suggest his message convincingly. Leaders' inspire people to plan and set goals, to accomplish what they have always wanted. A leader is someone who determines which goals are important and develops a plan to meet them. He/she is the one who apparently has solutions for every problem because he/she thought everything through before you even had a chance to begin. They display confidence in all that you do. By showing endurance in mental, physical, and spiritual stamina, they inspire others to reach for new heights. They inspire greatness within you! Empower people to achieve.

Honesty:

A leader displays sincerity, integrity, and truthfulness in all their actions. Deceptive behavior will not inspire trust.

Self-confidence:

True leaders believe in themselves. They feel that they have a high capacity to rise above the norm and make things happen. They take action and take charge when necessary. They usually are highly skilled individuals and have a broad knowledge of what it takes to complete a job, task or project. On the other hand, some successful leaders are not very skilled themselves, but they are able to identify those who are. They have the determination to accomplish a goal, regardless of the seemingly overwhelming obstacles. Leaders display a confident calmness when under stress.

Consistency

A strong leader shows consistency in his stance on issues and should not be easily swayed by others' opinions. However, this is not to be mistaken for stubbornness, which can be a fatal flaw. Rather, a leader is able to make rational decisions that are devoid of prejudice.

Creative:

Leaders make timely and appropriate changes in their thinking, plans, and methods. They show creativity by thinking of new and better goals, ideas, and solutions to problems. They are innovative! Effective leaders envision what they want and how to get it.

Intelligent:

Read, study, and seek challenging assignments. A leader is aware of what goes on from the front lines to the top level. This wide perspective, combined with a meticulous attention to detail, allows them to recognize when things are not right, where others cannot.

Diversified:

Leaders seek out diversity. They show fair treatment to all people. Prejudice is the enemy of justice. A leader displays empathy by being sensitive to the feelings, values, interests, and well being of others.

Takes risks:

Many people refuse to take risks because they are afraid of failing. But if you are an aspiring leader, you ask yourself "Is the risk worth taking?" Then you determine that the benefits outweigh the potential dangers. A leader takes the most risks and is often those who already have a good safety net in place. After they analyze the risk and decide it is worth taking, they overcome the mental barrier in their minds, that barrier that holds back most.

Persistence:

Leaders don't give up without a fight. Things do not always come easily, and leaders set an example by trying and trying again until they succeed. Leaders are quick to see when they are fighting a losing battle and to resort to Plan B when that point is reached.

Willingness to sacrifice:

Are you willing to do what it takes to get the job done? Being a good leader can be a demanding proposition because it requires a lot of face time and people management. This can eat into your personal life; you have to decide whether you are willing to make that sacrifice.

Adaptability:

Leaders are able to change with a company, with a changing market.

Excellence is "being outstanding...all you can be." Leaders build excellence they do not command it. To be an effective leader, your followers must have trust in you and they need to be sold on your vision.

Once you find your leader, you will know. This person will also hold real passion and belief for what it is they do. If they're doing what they really like, you almost can't help but feel their passion as well! Find your leader and follow them down the road to success!

Medicare Dental Coverage - What Dentist Services Are Covered by Medicare?

Basically, Medicare does not cover dental procedures unless they are done as part of and directly connected with some other Medicare covered condition requiring hospitalization.

Whether a procedure is covered has no connection with the severity of the condition or the immediacy of the need. It has everything to do with what service is performed, where and when it is performed, and the physical structure involved in the procedure. A covered procedure must be performed as a secondary service that is an integral part of a covered primary service that is non-dental in nature. It must be performed at the same time as the primary procedure and by the same physician or dentist. When the covered procedure results in the need for dentures or other appliances those expenses are not covered, even though the need is a direct result of the covered procedure.

Examples of dental expenses that are covered would be:

  • Removal of teeth or preparation of the jaw for radiation treatment of a tumor or growth.

  • Examination of the teeth (but not the treatment of them) prior to kidney or heart valve transplant

To be covered, such procedures must be done on an in-patient basis, and as part of treatment of the larger medical condition, and at the same time.

Examples of dental expenses that are not covered would be:

  • The care or treatment of teeth or structures supporting the teeth as a primary service

  • Removal or replacement of teeth as a primary service

  • The preparation of the mouth for dentures

  • Removal of teeth in an infected jaw

  • The repair of any supporting structures including all parts of the gums, tooth roots and their covering, and the alveolar bone which forms the tooth socket.

Medicare related programs take dental care into some account.

Privately paid dental costs are considered by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in calculating a patient's out of pocket medical expenses.

Medicare Medical Savings Accounts (MSA) can be set up which may cover dental expenses. Individuals do not make deposits to such accounts. Funds are added only from your Medicare account. Such accounts are strictly controlled with a deductible that must be met from Medicare qualifying expenses before the account can be used. Medicare selects the bank where the account is created, and payments from the account are usually made via a debit card. Although some expenses from MSAs are taxed, dental expenses are not.

Social Managed Care Plans under Medicare are available to qualifying individuals in a very few cities, and these plans may provide dental care in addition to other long-term care services.

The Beauty Secrets of Coffee

Coffee is a delicious and invigorating beverage, and it can also make you beautiful! Who knew?

Coffee is more than a delectable way to start your day, and it provides a number of skin care benefits. One of the main reasons that coffee is so good to drink and use topically on your skin is because it is full of antioxidants. It is recommended to drink a moderate amount of coffee on daily basis, which is from 2 to 3 cups, to reduce stroke, colon cancer, cardiovascular disease, cirrhosis of the liver, gallstones, and Alzheimer's disease. From this point, it is amazing to see what type of benefits coffee can provide when it is used topically on your skin, which is exactly why more and more skin care companies are utilizing this innovative ingredient.

One interesting beauty benefit that coffee can provide to your hair is through the power of the coffee berry. Some spa locations use protein treatments for the hair that have coffee as an ingredient. Since coffee is full of antioxidants, it can neutralize the chemicals that break and damage hair. However, users do need to keep in mind that coffee should not be directly applied to processed or colored hair because it could cause adverse affects. If you want to use some of these beauty benefits at home, you can brew espresso, and use it to rinse your hair. You can also let it sit for 20 minutes for a soft and shiny look to your tresses.

Coffee is also a wonderful ingredient to use to tame under eye circles when you combine it with vitamin K. Vitamin K is a proven ingredient to neutralize the purple bruising color underneath your eyes due to stress or lack of sleep. Coffee also works well to reduce puffiness underneath the eye area because it is a vasodilator. This means that it will shrink the blood vessels underneath the eyes to eliminate puffiness and reduce water under the skin. It is important to apply eye creams that use this Java ingredient as opposed to direct coffee grounds on your under eye circles.

Coffee also has wonderful benefits for the skin because it is full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits. You can purchase a coffee body wash or scrub, or you can even make your own at home. Coffee does contain caffeine, which will tighten the skin. This also works to immediately reduce cellulite by firming sagging skin. Coffee can also work for a full facial treatment to brighten the overall skin tone by reducing pigmentation. This is one main reason that Java is often used as a beauty treatment because it can brighten the surface of the skin for a refreshing glow to the complexion.

It's astonishing to understand all that there is to know about your beloved cup of Joe! Coffee is a wonderful beverage to enjoy on a daily basis to benefit your health, and it also has a number of beauty benefits for fresh and vibrant skin on a daily basis.

Finding a Great Contact Lens Store Online

Are you thinking about buying contact lenses online? Online shopping, for things you buy regularly, makes life much easier when you're busy. Buying online used to be considered a luxury. The thing is that it is no longer considered to be a luxury to buy something you need online because when you factor in your time and traveling expenses, it often makes sense to have products you use on a regular basis delivered directly to your door rather than to have to run out and shop for them on a continuous basis.

When it comes to eye products, more people than ever wear contact lenses and many of them wear disposable contact lenses so it makes sense to find a great contact lens store online. Saving time is important but so is saving money and because so many online suppliers for eyeglasses and lenses exist, you'll find highly competitive market online.

An online contact lens store can provide you with a number of items such as various types of contact lenses like: soft contacts, rigid lenses, disposable contact, extended wear lenses, bifocal lenses, colored contact lenses, toric options, orthokeratology contacts, uv blocking contacts, novelty / special effect lens sets, and more.

The contact lens store might carry singles as well as multi packs of the lenses as well as also carrying other items such as: contact lens solution and carrying cases. You'll find most contact lens store sites will carry several brand names such as: Acuvue, Focus Dailies, Bausch & Lomb, Ciba Vision, CooperVision, Ocular Science, Vistaken, Wesley Jessen, and others.

How do you find a great contact lens store?

With so many online stores to choose from, how do you choose the right contact lens store? Because contacts and solutions are something you actually put into your own eyes, it's important that you only purchase products that are reputable.

Because you're going to be paying for something online to a company you cannot see, you'll definitely want to be careful so you don't compromise your financial information. Most sites take credit cards and PayPal and your own PayPal or credit card account can be protected in case of fraudulent activity but instead of leaving it to chance, looking closely at the various contact lens shops closely can save you time and frustration.

What to look for when choosing a contact lens store:

  • Does the online store look professional?

  • Is there a telephone number to call in case of questions?

  • Is there a money back guarantee?

  • Are the prices relatively competitive?

  • What are the shipping fees?

  • What are the order turnaround times?

Comparing online stores is a wise thing to do. It's often wise to place a small order only when you place your very first online order at a new site so that you aren't too disappointed or out of pocket if it doesn't go well. After a store has won your trust and demonstrated commitment to quality and good customer service you will probably find that it's very worthwhile to deal with them on a regular basis.

It Works Marketing Review - Body Wraps, Compensation, and MORE (It Works!)

The It Works Global Story

If you're searching for a comprehensive overview of the It Works Global opportunity... you've found it! Established in 2001, It Works Global is a complete health & wellness company based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan and directed by CEO, Mark Pentecost.

The It Works natural product line ranges from herbal supplements to skin care and body slimming applicators. Distributors all across the globe have caught the vision and within only 5 years of operation, the organization realized a goal that many never experience - the freedom of being a debt-free company.

Their flagship product, which is responsible for much of their success, is the Ultimate Body Applicator. Scientist & Product Development Specialist, Luis Mujares, created the product over 20 years ago in his pursuit to cure skin cancer.

During his research, he found that as the skin was healed, it became tighter, toner and much more firm. These botanical ingredients were then bottled up and sold exclusively to cruise line ships and high-end spas.

In 2001, It Works Global bought out the rights and the product has since been featured on ABC, CNN, Opportunity World Magazine and at the Oscar and Emmy gift suites.

So... Does The "It Works Wrap" Really Work?

When I was first introduced to the concept of a body wrap - I rolled my eyes. But, in April of this past year, I attended an Expo in Cincinnati where I saw the It Works Global team wrapping expo participants and visitors of the American Massage Therapy Association.

I saw over 100 people wrapped that day, and never have I experienced such genuine excitement from strangers-all in one place. While I don't know any of those people on a personal basis, I do know that many of those people came back from that expo with a bit of themselves missing from their waistline.

So, needless to say, I started to believe that this wrap, and this company had something incredible going on...

How Does The "It Works Wrap" Work?

As a person becomes increasingly overweight, they don't get more and more fat cells... the ones they have just grow larger. The reason these fat cells expand is due to the excess of toxins. Clients are encouraged to drink lots of water in order for these toxins to be flushed out.

A typical side effect after the use of a single 45 minute application is a tighter, more toned, measured area! (not bad for an hour of relaxing... )

The wrap is then discarded, but the ingredients have already penetrated to the deeper layers of the skin. Measurements are checked again 72 hours later, since results are also progressive. (In other words, there may be more results over the course of 3 days.)

How Do You Get Paid With It Works?

The It Works compensation plan is unilateral and has 6+ levels of pay you can earn, depending on your status in the company. You'll make 15% on all distributors and loyal customers you directly enroll.

During an expo, party or gathering, you'll also make instant retail profits from any wraps or supplements sold at that time. Commission checks which are a result of your organization's growth are also paid out on the 15th of every month.

Here's a brief snapshot of the commission payouts:

  • Distributor= 15% - personally enrolled or 10% (on first level), 10% (on second level)

  • Executive= Same as above plus 5% (on third level)

  • Ruby= Same as above plus 5% (on fourth level)

  • Emerald= Same as above plus 5% (on fifth level) and 2% on sixth level and beyond

  • Diamond & Above= Same as above plus LOTS of leadership bonuses (aka - "license to make money")

Bonuses available to all distributors:

  1. Fast start bonus: Every time you sign up a new distributor and help them get 2 loyal customers within their first 30 days, you get $100 cash! This is paid out on a weekly basis on Fridays (you don't have to wait until your monthly check to get it).

  2. "Car" Bonus: No, you don't get a "car" but you sure could finance one with $600 a month once you get 60 loyal customers. The company will allow you as long as it takes to make this happen!

  3. Wrap Rewards: Every time you gather 2 loyal customers, you have the opportunity to purchase a box of wraps (4 in a box) for just $19.95. (Retail price: $89.00) You can easily see the quick potential to earn some additional income here!

What Can You Expect With It Works Global?

There are numerous training materials offered to the It Works Global team. These include: webinars, live chat, weekly conference calls, online training videos, up-line support, boot camps, and the annual It Works Global conference. The resources available to you as a new distributor to become successful are plentiful.

What Makes It Works Different From Other Opportunities?

  • It Works offers consumable products that are vital to health and wellness. That means people will keep coming back for more. This is the difference between selling something people want vs. selling something people need.

  • It Works Global provides a unique, first-to-market product - the Ultimate Body Applicator. There is nothing else like it on the market.

  • The possibilities of the target audience are substantial. People fall into two categories: those who are healthy and those who are not. Either way - you have their attention. These products help maintain good health but also promote a positive change in lifestyle for those who are not where they want to be.

  • Unlike other network marketing programs, you are not limited to home parties and gatherings. You could obtain distributors and customers through advertising to salons, spas, gyms, expos and by utilizing online tools.

  • There is a major difference between the It Works model and that of direct sales. With networking, you build up residual income, which will work for you even when you are not working. Obviously, you'll make the most of this opportunity when you are engaged yourself, but there is also a great reward for training others and that shows up in your paycheck.

How Do You Join?

To become a Distributor and obtain the rights to sell the entire product line, you'll need to purchase a distributor kit at $99. The basic kit contains wraps, an assortment of sales aides, distributor/customer order forms and a business building DVD.

How to Choose a Great Name For Your Non-Profit Organization

What's in a name? Everything.

Choosing a name for your organization can be challenging. Why? Because a great name must:

o Be Simple o Be Memorable o State what the organization does o Encourage beneficiaries o Invite Donations

Most organizations choose a name that is too long. The longer the name, the harder it is to remember. Invariably, the community shortens the name. The Eudorianese Health Care Center for Women" becomes known as "The Women's Clinic." The longer name definitely states what the organization does, but the shorter version does also. Imagining how the community may abbreviate the name you're considering should help you to choose one that is simple and direct.

The Women's Clinic is a great name. It is encouraging to beneficiaries (women) and states that this organization is squarely focused on women's health. The name is simple, easy to remember and potential donors (and the community) can easily recognize the purpose.

I have talked with several people that have had great ideas for non-profit organizations. Their vision and mission was wonderful, however, the name they had chosen for the organization did not match their purpose. Some names were actually depressing. I encouraged them to choose another. Names carrying a negative overtone are uninspiring to beneficiaries and potential donors.

Before you incorporate, check with your state to ensure that the name you have chosen is not in use. Most states have a website. You should be able to find your state's official site by entering "state of _______." Usually, information regarding non-profit entities will be in the business section.

What Can Be Done To Improve Poor Eyesight In The Elderly?

In 2012 the over-60 population in the World was 810 million, 4 times more than in 1950 this is set to increase 2,000 million by 2050. With more people living longer there is an exponential increase in incidents of vision loss.

Vision loss is currently the leading cause of age related disability, and what is worse is that 80 percent of it is preventable. Worldwide 285 million people and visually impaired, 39 million of these are totally blind. In developing countries 94 million people suffer from moderate to severe visual impairment. In 2010 the direct costs of vision loss were $2.3 trillion worldwide and the indirect costs a further $652 billion.

As we get older it is likely that our eyesight may begin to deteriorate. Is that just a sign of old age, or could it be something treatable? It has been found that approximately 1 in 3 people have a vision reducing disease by the age of 65.

There are a number of common eye conditions particularly amongst the elderly and these can include: Glaucoma (Pressure build up in the eye that causes optic nerve damage), Cataracts, Prebyopia (loss of ability to see close objects and small print clearly), Temporal arteritis (inflammation and damage to blood vessels) and dry eyes.

Causes

There are a number of different things that can cause problems with eyesight amongst the elderly. Most commonly the causes of vision loss amongst the elderly include: Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) (the Macula is a part of the Retina that enables us to focus on detail), Cataracts, Glaucoma, and Diabetic Retinopathy.

Age-related Macular Degeneration is the loss of central vision, and this can have a major impact of completing daily living tasks for the elderly.

What can be done?

Vision loss is common in old age, but it doesn't have to be inevitable. There are a number of different things that can be done to maintain or improve vision amongst the elderly.

Cataracts is a condition that can be quite common in the elderly, and the best way of improving the condition is with surgical intervention.

Glaucoma is a condition that needs treatment as soon as possible, because any damage caused to vision by the condition cannot be repaired. Early treatment allows further damage to the vision to be prevented. Eye drops are a common treatment of the early stages of Glaucoma, as they can be used to alleviate the pressure. Other treatments for Glaucoma also include: laser treatment and surgery. There are a number of types of surgery that can be used to treat Glaucoma, and these all involve increasing the drainage of fluid from the eye in order to alleviate pressure.

Although there is currently no cure for Age-related Macular Degeneration there are a number of things that can be done. For example by using magnifying glasses or buying larger print books you find it easier to complete day to day tasks. There is also some limited research that has found that there may be a link in slowing down the progression of the condition and having a diet that is high in vitamins A, C, and E. Foods high in these vitamins include: oranges, kiwi, green leafy vegetables, carrots, tomatoes, peas, mangoes and sweet corn.

There are many other things that can be done in order to improve eyesight amongst the elderly. For there has been some research that indicates that perceptual training (training your eyes) can be beneficial in improving eyesight amongst the elderly. Another way in which eyesight could be improved amongst the elderly is through optical devices and visual aids. Eyesight may be damaged beyond repair but visual aids such as glasses or magnifying glasses can be used to improve eyesight. Research has also found that vitamin D could help to keep a good blood supply flowing to the retinas, which could improve sight and prevent vision loss.

Home care

As vision deteriorates Home Care may become a viable option to help maintain confidence in doing daily tasks. A care worker can come in and provide yourself or a loved one with some help and support around the home. Care Workers can provide a variety of different types of care, and this can be beneficial for an individual who is suffering from poor vision as they can help with tasks such as meal preparation, domestic duties, and medication management. This can be beneficial as a Home Care package can help to relieve some of the stress associated with having poor eyesight.

Care workers can, also, ensure action is being taken to have regular eye checks done by a qualified ophthalmic practitioner and that any recommended corrective devices are being properly used.

Care workers can ensure that the house is kept clear of trip hazards and that there is proper lighting for moving around the home and for reading.

Can An Eyeglass Prescription Be Converted For Contact Lenses?

In the first instance, it should be made clear that a prescription for contact lenses is not the same as a prescription for eyeglasses. So, one can say that it is not possible to do a direct eyeglass to contact lens conversion. However, the eyeglass prescription can be used in the construction of the contact lens prescription, by making allowances for the change in distance between the corrective material and the optic lens.

The prescription and fitting for contact lenses involves a good deal more than a similar prescription and fitting for spectacle lenses. For those new to wearing contact lenses, the fitting will be very new. This will again vary, depending on the type of lens being fitted.

The matter is further complicated depending on the type of lens being prescribed. Hard lens fit the eye differently to soft lenses, so allowances have to be made depending on the material being used for the contact lens itself.

Your contact lens practitioner will probably start by doing a refraction to determine the refractive error of your eyes, and then take further measurements, such as the tear film assessment and the corneal curvature to determine the best fitting contact lens and best material for your eyes. An exam and fitting for contact lenses can include your spectacle prescription.

One should also be aware of the increased maintenance cost of contact lenses. This includes more regular checks on your eyes, and more frequent replacement of the lenses. You should also include the cleaning and storage materials in the cost of lenses because they are a critical part of your eye health care.

In summary, whilst your eyeglass prescription can be used to help with the contact lens prescription, it cannot be assumed that the former can be used to create the latter.

Is it Safe to Have Laser Hair Removal Treatment Near Your Eyes

Eye safety is one of the most important areas of concern whenever lasers are used in and around the eye region. The eyes being one of the most vital and vulnerable of all body parts, intensive care needs to be taken on the part of the laser hair removal clients as well as the laser technicians while performing a hair removal procedure near the eyes. Whilst getting this hair removal procedure done, even the slightest of direct or indirect contact with the eyes can lead to permanent damage to the eye tissues.

Basically, the worst thing about any eye damage that might be brought about by lasers is that it is practically a painless process. The burning of retina can cause irreversible damage to the eye and it is very extremely hard to be diagnosed if the retina has been hurt in any way or the other by the laser beam. This particular laser treatment can bring about extensive damage to the retina, the cornea and even the lens of the eye in which lead to serious vision distortion.

Therefore, the kind of laser hair removal equipment being used by most health and beauty centers also plays a vital role of identifying the kind of damage that affect your eye vision during the performance of this particular laser treatment. In order to avoid permanent damage to the eyes, there are various kinds of laser safety eye wear which can be used at all times during the laser hair removal process. It is advisable that you prefer not to remove unwanted facial hair near your eyes by undergoing this particular treatment.

A Brief Comparison Between Contact Lens and Eyeglasses

Contact lenses have replaced the traditional eyeglasses at a large extent. They differ a lot from the eyeglasses are provide many facilities that any spectacle cannot provide. These lenses are advantageous over eyeglasses on various aspects. But, there are also some disadvantages that a person has to face while using contact lenses. Here we are going to compare between contact lens and eyeglasses. Everyone knows what an eyeglass is and what its use are. But, there are also few people who do not know much about contact lenses.

Contact lens is a soft plastic plate placed in the cornea of human eye. It works same as that of an eyeglass, but is more advantageous than the traditional eyeglasses. Contact lenses are light-weight and weigh almost nothing, they are fully transparent. When a person wears a contact lens on the cornea region of the eye, it cannot be distinguished. Some contact lens manufacturing companies use tints of color on these lenses, so that they can be visible while cleaning. Since, a contact lens has direct contact with the cornea; there are certain possibilities of eye injury (if certain precautions are not taken). The eyeglasses are safer in such cases, but if a person faces any kind of accident, then also his eyes can get totally damaged by the broken glass pieces of the spectacle. The contact lenses are much better in such cases.

Contact lenses are light and people do not feeling anything while wearing them, whereas the traditional eyeglasses are heavy and often cause irritation on the ears. If a spectacle user has got high power in his eyes, then he has to wear spectacle with thick and heavy glasses on them, which is very uncomfortable. The contact lens in such case is advantageous over the specs. Lenses are light and do not differ in shape, size or weight whatever power a person has in his eyes. It is often hard for the young kids to play around wearing thick glass specs. They often lose or break these specs while playing. Same problem is faced by the people who have to give a lot of physical labor at their job site. They cannot work freely wearing a large glass spectacle. But, if they use contact lenses no problems will occur. The kids can play freely and workers can work freely wearing a contact lens.

The only disadvantage that a contact lens has is that it has to be cleaned almost every day in a specific solution provided with the lens. A person has to take a lot of care to his pair of lenses. A little scratch on the lens can damage it forever. The contact lens should be cleaned very carefully, whereas the traditional large eye glasses do not need such attention and care. If you are going to buy a contact lens for yourself, always go for the well known lens manufacturers and also look for the companies who provide a good solution with the contact lenses.

Eye Strain - Causes, Symptoms and Natural Solutions

It can be very hard on the eyes when they try to focus on an object for a long period of time. The muscles in the eyes end up tired and over taxed. The eyes were not necessarily designed to focus on one object at the same distance for a long time, rather they are supposed to shift focus from far and near objects. Nowadays, most of our work and recreation is done up close and our eyes are not given the opportunity to shift focus like they were designed to.

Things such as reading, working at the computer or watching TV require focus and concentration. You might not even realize it but these tasks put a lot of strain on the muscles in your eyes. As the muscles in your eyes become tighter they tend to become uncomfortable, dried out and irritated.

If you are feeling these symptoms or have a sensitivity to light then you should go visit your family doctor or optician to have your eyes examined. The added advantage to doing this is that you can also rule out more serious eye disorders that may be in the early stages. You can also find out whether or not you need eyeglasses or contact lenses during this visit.

Viewing objects close up tends to strain the eyes more than viewing at long distances. Lighting also plays a role. If you are working in an environment that does not have proper lighting then your eyes are working extra hard. You want to make sure that there is no direct sunlight or ceiling lights entering your field of vision for long periods of time.

It is very common to have eye strain when working at computers for long periods of time. To make this worse, if there are bright lights bouncing off your monitor screen you are only adding to the problem. This is because the contrast between what you are looking at and the background are reduced by the light that is being reflected.

Your brain has to work harder to interpret the image because of the glare and ends up forcing you to strain your eyes. You want to make sure that your desktop, on your computer, is set to a contrast that is close to what you are working on in the window. What I mean by this is that you do not want a black background with yellow typeset. Make it colors that are not so different from each other, but not too much the same.

You can buy some over the counter eye drops or artificial tears to temporarily relieve your eye strain. Try to stay away from prescription eye drops because they are more harsh and have many side effects. They can even become addictive to your eyes.

How to Make Money Online With Affiliate Marketing Through Fortune 500 Companies

Affiliate marketing is an 6.5 billion dollar industry and you might be surprised to realise that the ones making the money are average folks like you and me with regular websites based around various topics like:

  • Pets

  • Cars

  • Computers

  • Vision Care

  • Teeth whitening

  • GPS Devices

  • Shoes

  • Clothing

  • Gardening

  • Art

  • Allergies

  • Finance

  • Cell Phones

  • Quilting

  • Sports

  • Fitness

  • Health

  • Games

  • Software and more.

People who are not familiar with the term affiliate marketing usually are very sceptical about it as a viable online business, I too was the same when I started doing it 6 years ago, yet I was astonished to find how normal it really is and how through working at it I was able to make a full time income from doing it.

Affiliate marketing is just another form of advertising used by companies to promote their products and services, just like:

  • Newspaper Ads

  • TV

  • Radio

  • Press Releases

  • Billboards

  • Flyers

  • Mail outs etc.

The nice part about it all is you get to work with fortune 500 companies all the way through to small mom and pop stores online who are looking to gain more sales, but need help. So who are these large and small companies? Well here are just a few of the thousands that are out there.

  • AT&T

  • Verizon

  • Sprint

  • Yahoo

  • Google

  • MSN

  • Dell

  • HP

  • Toshiba

  • Nokia

  • T-mobile

  • Expedia

  • LetsTalk.com

  • 1800 Contacts

  • Sears

  • Walgreens

  • Newegg

  • Sony

  • Home Depot

  • Amazon

  • Barnes and Noble

  • Chapters

  • Apple Store

  • Eharmony.com and many more...

Them and many more are looking to have you help them and they are willing to pay you a commission for each sale/click you produce for them.

Here is how affiliate marketing works in 3 steps:

Step 1 - A customer arrives at your affiliate website, searching for information, products or a service.

Step 2 - You direct them to an online merchants/sellers website.

Step 3 - The online merchant/seller pays you for each sale, lead and/or click you have generated according to the arrangement between yourself and them.

Essentially, all your doing is matching up buyers with sellers. you simply refer them to a product or a service just like you would tell someone to see a good movie. Difference being though, is you get paid to do it!

The key is to know how to build a site which converts like crazy, that gains traffic from multiple sources and turns the curious into buyers.

The Uses Of Refractometer

A Refractometer is the most effective instrument that measures the refractive index of gases, liquids, and solids. It is a non-invasive device used to measure the speed of the light reduced in any solution. Inside it, a shadow line appears which can be viewed with the help of magnifying eye piece. In short, it is used for the identification of the substances. It is commonly used in beer making industry, vision care, veterinary medicine or in the study of gems. In vision care, it is used to test the eyesight and the nature of the glasses. In veterinary medicine, it is used to measure the levels of proteins in the blood serum and in the gems, it is used to determine their authenticity and quality.

One of the famous personalities named Erst Abbe created this instrument in the 18th century by using thermometers along with the circulating water baths. Its evolution is divided into four major categories and they are digital, traditional, Abbe and inline process. They can be easily carried and are very cost-efficient. In addition, they also don't need high level of maintenance. By following the simple instructions, one can easily get instant results from it. Along with these benefits, it also has some drawbacks because it is not the direct method of testing. In some cases, it may provide you inaccurate results as it measures the total solution, but not the specific components present in it.

In traditional refractometer, a sample is placed between a prism and a small cover plate to measure the temperature. Digital handheld are most popular for its tolerance, light weight and water resistant abilities. These features helps to do as many as measurements in a very short period of time. The laboratory Refractometers are the best solution for the people who want results in parameters or outputs. Last but the not the least is Inline process. It is very versatile and save a lot of time and money. It is introduced for the continuous measurement of the fluid. It includes a sensor and a control box which provide results in relay outputs to control valves. This type of measurement is most important in sugar, paper or pulp industries.

To get the best out refractometers, there are some circumstances to consider. Their results are more effective in a well-maintained, clean running and recently charged systems. It really does not matter for which reason you are using this instrument, they are come in large range of variety at a very affordable rate. The only part is calibration as it refers to the accurate reading. In order to calibrate it, one can put some drops of RO/DI. They help you to eliminate all the mess with no use of moving parts.

What Could Be the Long Term Effects of an Eye Strain?

The National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH) of the United States had declared that eye strain is the leading problem for computer users. Dr. Paul F. Bommarito, an Occupational Vision Optometrist and Certified Industrial Ergonomist, said that about 88% of heavy computer users experience these problems.

Eye strain as a form of asthenopia is discomforting and annoying. Studies declare that as now, there are no lasting health consequences associated with it. Complications and problems arise when it is not tended to. Most of these complications have no long term effects but it leads us to understand that they need our attention and consideration to delay further discomfort.

Working on a computer for long periods of time in a day without proper resting once in a while could result to eye strain. This habit causes stress to the eye muscles especially those that control eye movement, as well as the facial and scalp muscles, thus, leading to pain and headache. Eye strain affects the eyesight of a person, thus, resulting to lower energy levels and performance outputs.

It is treated as a minor eye problem that can be prevented and corrected. Appropriate work station and workplace design like lighting, glare reduction, distance from computer, etc., can help prevent eye strain.

There is the so-called "VDU" or Visual Display Unit, a term that describes a visual display device for a computer. Some examples of VDUs are: a flat panel display, monitor, and a projector. Some visual problems are associated with the use of VDUs. "The percentage of workers suffering visual problems increases in proportion to the number of hours worked at the VDU. Surveys of those working more than six hours a day at the VDU have found up to 91 per cent experience visual problem... A consistent finding of studies of VDU users is that vision-related problems are higher among operators doing repetitive keyboard and screen work than among those doing more creative question and answer work suggesting that the intensity and repetitiveness of the work are important factors...Studies have also shown that eyestrain becomes worse in direct proportion to the amount of time spent each day at a VDU." (VDU Work and Hazards to Health Chapter 2)

The above article writes that extensive research says, that VDUs will not cause disease or permanent damage to the eyes. On another hand, many experts' findings show that some people whose job deal with VDUs may suffer the risk of more serious long-term damage than eye strain. For jobs requiring extensive and sustained attention and concentration on the computer (e.g. data entry, etc.), short, deliberate breaks or pauses must be honored by the worker.

If an individual cares for his eyes and performs proper preventive steps, he will keep on being effective on his tasks and maintain relatively good eyesight. Otherwise, if personal attempts to relieve eye strain do not work, and there are persistent eye discomforts which affect your vision and performance, then you would need to go visit an eye specialist for an eye examine.

For more information about eye strains you may find this site very resourceful http://www.eyestrainfromcomputers.com as it has information related to eye strains which is believed to be partially related to eye fatigue.

Dental Insurance Vs Health Insurance

If you're old enough to have been employed in the 1960's, you might remember when your company began to provide dental insurance as part of your health benefits package. Like many consumers, you may have thought-and perhaps might still believe-that your medical and dental coverage were similar, but that is not the case. Understanding the differences between these types of insurance can be a vital tool as you continue to seek the highest quality, lowest cost oral care.

General Medical vs. Oral Health Concerns

To understand why health insurance and dental coverage are different from each other, it is helpful to think about the nature of the problems each addresses.

Most non-dental, medical conditions we encounter cannot be predicted, and can be considered uncertain or random. Quite often, their occurrence results in significant and even catastrophic expense. Take a look at an itemized hospital bill or a receipt that shows how much your insurance covered when you needed an MRI or extensive blood tests, and you will understand just how quickly health costs can spiral out of control, as well as the key role insurance coverage plays in cushioning many of us from bankruptcy.

Contrast these health problems with dental issues such as tooth decay and periodontal disease. While oral diseases can be found in people from all walks of life, races and creeds, their prevalence has markedly decreased in recent years. This positive trend is due, in part, to community water fluoridation, as well as to the fact that more people are seeing the dentist regularly for preventive care. But unlike many health problems that may disappear unexpectedly, dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease only worsen over time, resulting in extensive and costly care.

How the Dental System Structure is Unique

Interestingly, the average per person expenditure for dental care in 2002 was $513.06, compared to $3,302 per person in the same year spent for standard medical care.

These figures suggest that these systems operate very differently from each other. Technological advances in the field of dentistry have enabled oral practitioners to be more efficient and to bring their costs down. Innovations in standard medicine, however, tend to result in higher costs.

When you visit your dentist, he or she can address most of your needs right in his office. In fact, 80% of dentists are general practitioners, with specialists like oral surgeons making up the other 20%.

This stands in direct contrast to the medical profession, where specialists comprise 80% of the field. In addition, most if not all of the dental care you ever receive in your lifetime will be on an outpatient basis, whereas a good portion of general healthcare takes place in hospitals or other in-patient settings. Finally, a much lower percentage of dentists are allied into larger groups or partnerships than are doctors. All of these factors combine to separate dentistry from general medicine.

Dental Insurance vs. Health Insurance

There is one final factor that sets dental care apart. Because most oral conditions are not of a life-threatening nature, you as the patient can have the luxury of time and choice. You can go online and consult family and friends or get a second opinion to find the dentist who will best meet your needs.

This time to shop around for oral care could give you the chance to research helpful coverage options known as discount dental plans. These alternatives to dental insurance enable a patient to save significantly because large groups of dentists band together and offer quality care at reduced prices. Insurance has come a long way since the 1960's, and obtaining the coverage that will save you the most money for the best care is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Risks Associated With The Misuse Of Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Almost thirteen percent of people who have visual correction needs have turned to contact lenses. Over the years, many technological advancements have been introduced by the contact lens industry that have changed the way lenses are made, what they are made of, as well as the way they are packaged for consumption by wearers. The one thing that hasn't changed however, is that contact lenses are still medical devices and this means that you should be fitted by a eye care professional and follow their lens care instructions thereafter. Wearing contact lenses is a serious matter. A prescription is required to wear them. As with any prescription you receive, it requires your understanding of the potential problems that you could experience as a result of non-compliance and over wear.

When disposable contact lenses were first introduced in the early 1990's, many eye care professionals applauded, as the most frequent problems they encountered as practitioners were related to lens handling and care. The seemingly perfect solution was provided when the lens industry introduced daily disposable contact lenses. These lenses were designed and packaged for daily replacement; that is daily use, removal, and disposal each and every day contact lenses are worn. These lenses solved many problems. With these lenses now, there is no need to have lens cases for their storage as the lenses are to be discarded at the end of the day. No lens case means that there is no risk of transmitting bacterial flora from a dirty lens case to the lens. Fresh and sterile lenses are inserted each day. No need for extensive cleaning and disinfecting. What could be more convenient?

Even though an eye care professional provides clear instructions regarding the wearing regimen and its importance, the greatest challenge remaining with the fitting of daily disposable contact lenses is over wear. This is an event that happens when the wearer tries to use the same daily wear contact lens for more than one day. In this specific instance to do so will re-introduce the lens case and the solutions parameters with their related issues. More importantly however is the fact that patients tend not to clean their daily wear lenses when using them multiple times. Doing so takes us right back to issues that pertain to the basics of dirty lenses and their problems.

To make the point on the specific issue of how dirty lenses can affect ocular health we need to review some basic information on the eye. The tissue on which your contact lenses sit when properly fitted is called the cornea. It is a very thin and clear tissue that represents the outer layers of the eye, layers of tissue that function to transmit and help focus light rays traveling into the eye. The cornea requires oxygen to remain healthy; yet, it has no blood vessels. This seems almost impossible but it is in fact the reality of the cornea. It has no direct internal supply of oxygen. Therefore, the cornea must rely on outside or atmospheric oxygen to remain healthy. To accommodate this phenomenon contact lenses are made from various porous materials. These pores, created by the gaps in the interlacing of the various types of plastic polymers, allow oxygen to be transmitted through the contact lens to reach the cornea. Oxygen diffused through tears is also important but it is less contributory than that which comes from the atmosphere.

Each time you place a contact lens on your eye, tears immediately begin to coat the lens. Human tears are necessary to keep the eye moist, clean, and clear. Tears contain lipids and more than 50 different proteins. These lipids and proteins immediately begin to fill the porous surface of the contact lens, the same pores that were originally designed to allow for the oxygenation of the cornea. When wearing the same lens over and over again what you will see happening is that the pores of the contact lens begin to clog up with natural tear components. Over time, this process will decrease and eventually severely limit the transmission of oxygen to the cornea. When looking at the lenses at the end of a day's wear, one can see that the lens is coated with debris and will require some physical rubbing to dislodge this debris. Once rinsed the debris will have been decreased on the surface but with little to no effect on the debris lodged in the pores.

When you compound the issues of lens cleanliness, and lens soiling with the ever important issue of oxygen deprivation you truly begin to comprehend the reasons for staying with a properly executed daily wear regimen. Any time the cornea is deprived of oxygen it sends out distress signals to the body for help. The body can do several things. One of these is to signal the blood vessels that exist at the periphery of the cornea to begin to move into the cornea as an emergency measure to supply oxygen. Since the cornea is always clear and without blood vessels, this condition could become a pathological one and, if allowed to develop, may bring blood vessels right into your field of vision.

So as you can see, keeping lenses clean and fresh is high on eye care practitioners' list of priorities. Limiting the re-use of your daily disposable lenses to a one-time use only as designed, provides both the professional and the contact lens wearer with a great measure of safety and ocular health, factors which were the basic objectives leading to the development of the daily wear lens. Encouraging successful fitting and the ongoing use of the wearer's contact lenses is the only way that the contact lens industry can continue to count on providing a valuable service to its clients.

Eye Twitching and Your Emotions

Eye twitching is actually very common. Virtually everyone gets affected by it at least once in his or her life. It is caused by the involuntary movement of the muscles in the eyelids. That's why it's also referred to as eyelid spasm. Generally it is not harmful, but it can be very annoying, even embarrassing.

The problem is caused by a lot of things. There may be some irritation in the eyes. If you lack sleep, if you have too much coffee, or if you're under a lot of stress, your eyes may also twitch. It may also happen if you have been staring in the computer or television for too long. The eye twitches too if you're suffering from epilepsy or a neurological disorder.

There's also a direct correlation between the eyelid spasms and your emotions.

What is the relationship?

How do you know that you're anxious, depressed, or under a high level of stress? It's not just because you think about them but also because you experience the signs and symptoms. For example, you can say that you're in a state of depression since you're irritable, moody, and always sad.

Eye twitching is often associated with anxiety. If you're about to speak in front of a large crowd, the eye twitch. If you're facing your greatest source of fear, the eyelids may start to move uncontrollably too.

Thus, in cases when the movements are not caused by an illness, lack of sleep, overconsumption of coffee, or other factors, then they could have been caused by what you're feeling at the moment.

What can you do?

You need to resolve all your negative emotions if you want to get rid of your eye twitching. There are two best ways on how you can do that.

First you look for a psychotherapist. You may have to go through a series of therapies that aim to change your bad habit, which is eye twitching, as well as to get rid of all the negative emotions that you're feeling. For instance, if the cause is anxiety over public speaking, the therapist may provide you with scenarios where you'll have to speak in front of an audience. He or she can coach you on how to face your fears and keep yourself calm when you're speaking in public. This technique is often called exposure therapy.

Second, you can use a variety of affirmations or subliminal messages. These are usually tools used by therapists for cognitive behavior therapy, wherein you're taught on how to transform negative thoughts into positive ones.

However, since you can already download these subliminal messages in the Internet, you can already practice the therapy all on your own.

If you're feeling your anxiety or stress building up and your eyes start to twitch, just relax by breathing slowly and deeply, then listening to the affirmations. Some of the messages you can listen to include the following:

I am brave and strong.

I am confident on what I can do.

I can play with my strengths.

Eye Exams Without Dilation - The Optomap Retinal Exam

The optomap Retinal Exam provides a panoramic view of the back of a person's eye (the retina). The view provided by the optomap displays up to 80% of the retina without dilating the patient's eyes.

How Does the Optomap Work

The patient places their eye to be photographed up to the instrument and the doctor's assistant positions the patient for a photograph and takes the picture. The optomap captures its image in only 1/4 of a second. The photographer takes two photos and evaluates the images. If the images look good the same thing is repeated on the second eye. The image captured allows the doctor to view up to 80% of the retinal fundus at one time. The image may be magnified or manipulated for a better view. Written notes can accompany the image file should it need to be emailed to the patient or another doctor. Different wavelengths of laser light used to take the image can be filtered allowing different layers of the retina to be evaluated.

Why is This Better Than Dilation

The optomap is not necessarily better than dilation. The optomap Retinal Exam is a great tool to use in addition to dilation or when a patient can't, or does not want to be dilated.

In some cases the view provided by the optomap is superior to that of pupil dilation. For example, a patient that is very light sensitive will often refuse to have their pupils dilated because of the pain they experience due to the bright lights. The dilated view afforded the doctor of a very photosensitive patient is often poor because it is difficult for the patient to keep their eyes open or to look in the appropriate direction. The optomap captures an image with a brief flash that even light sensitive patients do not object to, allowing the to doctor view the results without discomfort to the patient. The optomap allows for a more comfortable retinal exam. The optomap can be used as a retinal health screening tool, allowing the doctor to focus the dilated retinal exam on areas that require a better view or further investigation.

When comparing the doctor's view of your eye through an undilated pupil, with an instrument called a direct ophthalmoscope, approximately 10% of the retinal fundus is viewable. However, to attain this view requires a cooperative patient with good fixation. A wider view is achieved, through a dilated pupils, with an instrument that is worn on the doctor's head called a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope (BIO). To attain this wider view, requires a cooperative patient, with good fixation and 20 minutes to allow the drops to dilate the pupils. The patient's eyes will remain dilated for 4 to 6 hours and they may experience some blurriness during that time. By having the patient look in different directions, while the doctor readjusts his or her light and a lens that they hold in their hand, the view given by the binocular indirect ophthalmoscope can be increased to almost 100% of the retinal fundus. One of the biggest advantages of a dilated retinal fundus exam with a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope is that it allows the doctor to see the fundus in 3D or a "stereo view". A good retinal camera will allow the examiner to see about 30% of the back of a patient's eye at one time. By taking numerous images and piecing them together up to 60% of the fundus is viewable with a retinal camera.

For Whom is the Optomap Recommended

The short answer is almost everyone is a good candidate for the optomap Retinal Exam. We find, however, that some of the best candidates for the optomap are those patients that can't or don't want to be dilated, children, anyone with a history of retinal problems and people that are light sensitive.

It is in the best interest of your ocular health to have a retinal eye health evaluation during your yearly eye exam that is more comprehensive than a traditional, undilated eye exam. Both the the optomap Retinal Exam and a dilated eye exam meet that standard.

What is a Shared Vision?

So what makes a vision successful? Everyday companies try to create a vision that will lead them into the future but seldom does that vision ever impact the organization. The reason for this is that the vision is created by a few and never becomes a 'shared vision' of the entire organization.

Peter Senge, in his book "The Fifth Discipline" describes a shared vision as "... a force in people's hearts, a force of impressive power....At its simplest level, a shared vision is the answer to the question, "What do we want to create?" " A shared vision is a picture that everyone in the company carries in their heads and hearts.

So what does a shared vision do for your company? It converts the company into 'our company'. It creates a sense of commonality and gives coherence to diverse activities. It creates excitement and makes an extraordinary company. It allows everyone to work together. It creates a common identity and a sense of purpose. It encourages new ways of thinking and acting. It gives courage and fosters risk taking and experimentation. Basically without a shared vision, that vision you spent time creating is pointless and meaningless. And without a shared vision the learning organization cannot exist.

What is a learning organization?

A learning organization is one that continually learns and improves. A learning organization is one that learns faster than its competition, one that taps the knowledge of the entire organization and does not only rely on the top person. A learning organization learns from its failures and creates a new paradigm.

Imagine trying to learn from your failures if you are not part of a learning organization. Instead of learning people will pass blame, try to hide or ignore their failures and in the end the entire company suffers. In a learning organization a failure is seen as a chance to learn and then possibly shift your paradigm towards how things could be done.

With a shared vision everyone has a common destination and a common picture. They then work together as a team, supporting and encouraging each other. There is no competition between people, therefore there is no need to pass blame or hide your failures.

You may think that this all sounds wonderful but will never happen, but it actually does happen. To create this collaborative environment you need:

  • a committed team leader - one who encourages openness, gets rid of office politics and listens to the team.

  • a facilitator to help learn this new way of acting. One workshop is not going to change behavior. Change takes time and practice.

  • a willingness to change, to examine what doesn't work and accept a new paradigm if necessary.

  • a structured process to lead the team.

Sleep and Eye Health - The Effects of Insufficient Sleep On The Eyes

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC) in a recent study revealed that 40 million Americans get less than 6 hours of sleep per night. According to CBS News this is the equivalent of 30 % of America's work force. It is often challenging to develop a healthy routine that enables us to get an adequate amount of sleep due to the constant never - ending demands of the day. However, due to the fact that sleep is so crucial to the recovery, repair, and replenishment of the body's ability to function in a healthful manner, making the effort to develop healthy sleep patterns is an urgent priority that should never be taken for granted.

For instance, according to Dr. Murali Doraiswamy, sleep deprivation can have a harmful effect on brain health. Dr. Murali states that people who had a pattern of sleep deprivation experienced a deficiency in an important brain chemical responsible for creating memories called Acetycholine. In other words, lack of sleep can cause memory loss. In fact, researchers have found that people who lacked sleep performed poorly in memory tests than people who had adequate sleep. Even though there are no research studies making a direct link between a pattern of chronic sleep deprivation and Alzheimer's, people with such poor sleeping patterns mimicked a similar deficiency in this same brain chemical that Alzheimer's patients possessed. This does not mean that people with chronic sleep deprivation will get Alzheimer's,

but they do experience symptoms related to memory loss.

When you have a good night's sleep you wake up refreshed, rejuvenated, replenished and prepared to face the day. A lack of seep negatively affects the body's ability to function physically, mentally, and emotionally. With lack of sleep your physical performance to perform tasks diminishes as your energy levels plummet, mentally your ability to think clearly and make sound judgments are reduced as your work performance decreases, and emotionally you become moody and irritable. But did you know that a lack of sleep also has a negative effect on your eyes? Therefore, here are some negative effects of lack of sleep on the eyes:

Dry Eye: When the eyes natural ability to recover and replenish itself is reduced, due to lack of sleep, this hinders the normal function of the visual system to produce a sufficient amount of moister and tears to remain healthy. According to the Mayo Clinic, moisture protects the eyes from infection and also keeps them smooth and clear. A deficiency in this moisture leads to symptoms associated with dry eye which include eye fatigue, sensitivity to light, eye redness, a stinging or burning sensation in your eyes, excessive tearing and blurry vision.

Popping Of Blood Vessels In the Eyes: Excessive sleep deprivation over an extended period of time according to eye care experts can create such a strain on the eyes that this stress may be manifested in the popping of the blood vessels in the eyes.

AION: (Ischemic Optic Neuropathy- This is a condition that may lead to vision loss and according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, affects people in their middle ages already suffering from sleep Apnea.

The ideal daily recommended amount of sleep by doctors and health care experts is 8 hours. However, this may not be a realistic number to achieve due to the fact that in today's competitive world where a demanding lifestyle of never-ending to do lists is the norm, it is more practical to strive for sticking to no less than 6 hours daily. However, health care experts warn that a pattern of less than 5 hours of sleep can begin to have a negative effect on the eyes and the rest of the body.

While a demanding schedule makes getting an adequate amount of sleep a challenging undertaking, the health effects of lack of sleep leads to dire consequences and prevents the eyes and the rest of the body from functioning at its full potential. Well, you may ask what are the solutions to this problem? Well if fitting an adequate routine of sleep into your schedule is difficult, try setting a regular schedule for sleep and committing to it. Some people experience difficulty drifting off to sleep and this makes it challenging to get an adequate amount of rest. If this scenario applies to you try these suggestions:

Mind/Body Relaxation Technique: This is a relaxation technique that involves using the mind/ body connection to induce sleep. This is done by using the mind to relax the muscles in your feet as you slowly work your way up to your calves, thighs, pelvis, abdomen, chest, neck, head and facial muscles, thereby relaxing each muscle group in each area of the body one at a time. This relaxation technique induces sleep and is quite effective. Some other suggestions include taking a warm bath before going to bed and listening to relaxing music.

Make getting adequate sleep an integral part of your daily routine by fitting it into your daily schedule. Ultimately, these efforts are crucial in protecting your brain health and eye health as well. In the final analysis, healthy sleep patterns enable the entire body to perform at its full potential, maximizing your productivity and your ability to get the most out of your day.
